When cutting your grass, follow the one-third rule. That is, cutting only a third of your grass' height. For instance, if the height of the grass is three inches, trim only an inch of it. If you cut more than that, you might end up making your lawn look bald. Leave the clippings on the lawn as these will act as fertilisers when they decompose. Furthermore, do not water your grass too much as a damp lawn will only invite fungal diseases that could possibly infect the grass and cause it to die. Likewise, watering your lawn at night-time will trigger diseases to scatter on your grass.

Use sharp blades when cutting the grass on your lawn to prevent the grass from getting beat up with dull blades. Unsharpened blades can cause brown lines across the tip of the grass and this does not contribute in making your lawn look pretty. It is advised that home owners should get their mowers' blades polished at least two times in a year.

To eliminate stubborn weeds from scattering on your lawn, use herbicides and fertilisers but only in moderation. If you fertilise your lawn more than what is needed, it will grow faster and will demand more mowing from your end. In everything that you do as an effort to make your lawn look lush and perfect, it is important that you do not overdo things.
