A robotic lawnmower was introduced to the public at the beginning of the year. It is uses two lead acid batteries to power up its 24-volt DC motor and the other to run its computer system, which allows it to run for about three hours. This robotic lawnmower weighs about 650 pounds and has a speed of 3.5 mph. Although it is not something that ordinary people will normally buy or need, golf course owners and developers are definitely crazy about it as it can help the upkeep of a golf course with better precision and do not involve large amounts of money for labour costs.
The owners of the company that developed this technology saw the need for the golf course industry for high-tech maintenance equipment without them having to complain about a hefty price tag. Moreover, it has been developing add-ons for the machine to allow golf course developers to use it to clear rake sand traps, fairways and treat them with pesticides and fertilisers. The reason that this lawnmower works perfectly for golf courses is that it is so smart it can be pre-programmed to do any pattern that developers would like to sometimes have. Since it is not run on solar and does not need the sun for it to work, it can do the mowing at night so patrons will not be interrupted while making their tees. Moreover, early morning mowing helps reduce grass diseases, thus reducing the need for the use of fungicides, pesticides, fertilisers, etc. that contaminate the water. Therefore, all these make this machine more environmentally safer than any other lawnmower.
